Damage & Disease caused by Gluten

It is estimated that 60% or more of the population is sensitive to gluten and having any or all of the following responses and more. The new understanding of the harmful effects of gluten are not well known and the information is slowly entering the conventional and natural health professions. The information below outlines the profound and significant relevance of gluten sensitivity and in my opinion it is a major health concern of epidemic proportion that is easily addressed. Gluten sensitivity leads to;

1) Leaky Gut Syndrome
Damage to the lining of the intestinal tract and leading to the malabsorption of calcium, iron, B complex, C, and trace minerals (e.g. zinc, magnesium, lithium, boron, and more).  This malabsorption or leaky gut syndrome contributes greatly to the ill health by causing nutrient deficiencies.

2) Intestinal and Systemic Inflammation
damage to the intestinal lining allows absorption of foreign substances (large protein molecules, intact bacteria & viruses) that overwhelm the immune system causing illness and activation of new autoimmune diseases and allergen sensitivities

3) Brain Inflammation
Damage to the Brain Blood Barrier which is the entire blood vessel network that supplies blood to the brain and protects the brain from entry of foreign substances. This leads to inflammation on the brain, damage to neurons and disregulation of the brains chemistry. The end result being many common degenerative brain disease and disorders: Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, dementia, depression, anxiety, bi-polar and many more.

4) Autoimmune Diseases and/or symptoms disorders caused by antibody destruction 
Good farming practices known as ‘Hybridization’ and genetic modification have alter the protein in the grain. These new proteins are seen as foreign enemies by the immune system in the GI tract and antibodies are produced. The production of antibodies is a normal response by the immune system but there is a problem. The DNA sequences of these new grain proteins is very similar to certain body tissues and the new antibodies attack other proteins which have a similar DNA sequence. The result is the antibodies are attacking specific body tissues and resulting in autoimmune diseases. The following is a list disorders, autoimmune diseases and/or tissue damage that can be caused or exacerbated by a gluten sensitive response;

GERD, Acid Reflux – destruction of stomach parietal cells
