Path To Acupuncture & Functional Medicine
In 2002 at age 40 Van encountered a major health crisis: blood disorder, stroke and lethal prognosis. He was confronted with the limitations of conventional medicine – hope was taken away and was given 6-12 months to live. Saddled with disabilities, unable to work and not having a future he chose from the ‘Bucket List’ to resume study of horses which have been his life’s passion. It was there that he was introduced to Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) by several of the world’s top veterinarians and therapist. Those medicines combined with guidance by them, his prior medical science knowledge (he had studied pre-med and pre-veterinary sciences 30 years prior) combined with problem solving skills from his profession as a designer/builder of complex special effects lead to creative solutions eventually the restoration of his health.

Along the way he established a horse therapy practice and five years after the stroke entered acupuncture college. His life is now dedicated to bringing these powerful therapies and medicine practices to conditions which they typically are never considered much less applied. There are 700,000 strokes annually in the USA and equates to many who are in need. Today, his practice includes those medicines and therapeutic practices that restored his health and have given him a new purposeful life.

To quote Van “I lived through the years of disability and despair. I am here to tell you there is hope, even when the conventional medical world tells you there’s nothing more they can do.  They are correct, they do not practice or provide the CAM therapies – hence, the reasons why you may never hear about them. When I was diagnosed and living with disabilities, I had trouble seeing the positive side of the situation. Now, I am so grateful that I am able to use my own experiences to help others recover the way I did”.
